The lack of cars is the norm here. Lovely smooth roads taking you through varied terrain. They’re not all as flat as suggested by these pictures!
Sunrise from the terrace. You have to be lucky to catch it just like this. The black dots are the swifts having breakfast.
A small part of the lovely pools at Fontanars which is an easy ride to, but not so easy back. Deep enough to swim in and busy in summer.
Welcome to Cocentaina. Hard to believe this is still the Costa Blanca. The sentinel Castle watches over all.
Part of the view of the old town taken from the terrace. The tower is the main church and the clock chimes the hours and sometimes the quarters and halfs too.
Cocentaina’s Palace (above and right) which is well worth a visit and also where the tourist information office is housed.
The castle which overlooks Cocentaina. It is visible for miles and is a useful beacon. At night it is lit by a spotlight and hovers in mid air – like a square moon.
Parts of the spectacular road either from or to Pego, depending on which way round you do the ride.
Typical road, cycling through terraces of olives and almonds.
The almond blossom appears in February and early March and looks particularly beautiful when viewed across large expanses. Some white, some dark pink and everything in between. Sometimes two colours on just one tree.
